Voyager One and Voyager Two
These paintings were inspired by the PBS documentary “The Farthest: Voyager in Space”. The documentary followed the Voyager program from its inception through to the moment the spacecraft left the solar system. With this diptych, I wanted to capture the length of the journey and highlight the solitary nature of each voyager. I was struck by the notion of the solitary explorer venturing into the unknown.
Both of these paintings were done using acrylic paints on stretched canvas. I started by laying down heavy patches of paint to build the background textures. I then covered everything with a flat black acrylic paint. Using a small paint roller, I marked out the white stripe that represents the journey of each Voyager spacecraft.
